The unique challenges of delivering medical services in rural areas can lead to an amplified sense of burnout among these physicians. The reality of rural practice often means that the resources needed to treat patients quickly, and at the desired level of care, are simply not available. In many aspects of their professional lives, rural physicians have less access to support for both patient treatment and for their own well-being.
In a small community, physicians know everyone and everyone knows them – often leading to a sense that they are never ‘off the clock.’ Compared to their colleagues in metro areas, both the physicians and their families also often express a sense of isolation.
Lumunos has created engagements with hospitals and other funders who have a specific interest in addressing the well-being of rural physicians. We are tailoring the design and delivery of our programs to meet the unique challenges these physicians face.
